My husband did his father’s day right. It is what I should have done. He got away. He went to the lake spot for the night with his dad and brother and fished, grilled and enjoyed each other. They will be back sometime today…I think.
Before you judge…fathers day is a celebration of fathers right? Some may say that the best way to celebrate is with the children cuddling and cooking breakfast and giving sweet hand-made gifts.
True. Sweet. Not necessary though.
For me, mothers day (or fathers day) is about finding oneself. Remembering that we are not only fathers (or mothers) but people. We enjoy things like fishing. Grilling. BS’ing. Playing poker. And yes can you do some of this with the kids, sure..but sometimes we..just. don’t. want. to. And that is OK. So choose how you want to spend your father’s day (or mothers day) and we shall do the same. It is a reboot day for us. Reboot ourselves so that we can be the fathers or mothers that we strive to be (but always fall short of).
In the meantime, I was swimming in babies, chopping, diapers, crying, spillages, baking and sweat. Yes I was attempting to cook. And not just any meals. The favorite meals. Which of course have to be difficult.
Messy and unorganized work area today…what do you expect? I was feeding kiddo’s and changing bums too (yes I washed my hands…I think).
Tabouli. Do you know how much chopped parsley has to go in this dish?? A LOT. Actually a lot of chopped STUFF! I started chopping at 6:45am (an hour after my first child got up) and just finished it all and it is oh…10:15am.
Halfway done chopping…I have blisters!
I also made chicken and dumplings. From scratch. It is now bubbling warmly in the crock pot. Below are the recipes if you would like them. Pretty yummy stuff if I do say so myself and both go great with a yummy gluten-free beer!
